{"id":6937,"date":"2013-11-20T12:27:22","date_gmt":"2013-11-20T12:27:22","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.protectia.eu\/innovation-3d-printing\/"},"modified":"2013-11-20T12:27:22","modified_gmt":"2013-11-20T12:27:22","slug":"innovation-3d-printing","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.protectia.eu\/en\/innovation-3d-printing\/","title":{"rendered":"The innovation of 3D Printing"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Following the lead of the last article published on our blog, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.protectia.eu\/blog\/en\/patents\/3d-impressions-and-patents\/\">3D Impressions and Patents<\/a>, we present this week into our \u201c<em>Patents world<\/em>\u201d section a video showing more about this amazing technology.<\/p>\n<p>The video explores the process of innovation of 3D printing, and it is developed by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.nbclearn.com\/portal\/site\/learn\">NBC Learn<\/a> in collaboration with the National Science Foundation and the U.S Patent and Trademark Office (<a href=\"http:\/\/www.uspto.gov\/\">USPTO<\/a>).<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/nWXhLUic9IE\" height=\"315\" width=\"560\" allowfullscreen=\"\" frameborder=\"0\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>As the video explains, 3D printing is an innovative manufacturing technique which was created by professors Michael Cima and Emanuel Sachs, with the goal of giving people a more efficient way of creating prototypes or potential versions of a product.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->Traditionally, manufacturers used a <em>subtractive process<\/em> to create prototypes.<\/p>\n<p><em id=\"__mceDel\"> The <em>additive manufacturing technique<\/em> of <strong>3D printing<\/strong> works on the contrary:<\/em><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"line-height: 15px;\">A tridimensional representation of an object is created using a computer.<br \/> <\/span><\/li>\n<li>This image is then mathematically sliced into thin horizontal layers.<\/li>\n<li>Each layers data are sent to the printer.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Without entering too much deeper, we can say that the advantage of this technique is its ability to create almost any shape or geometric feature.<\/p>\n<p>In 1993, the two professors <strong><em>began<\/em> <em>filing a series of patents for the 3D printer<\/em><\/strong> in the USPTO.
